Norwegian Experimental Theater Workshop (NExT)
In 2014 XTL began working with Scenelusa Produksjoner of Oslo, Norway to create the Norwegian Experimental Theater Workshop (NExT). The early stages of the planning and training were all done with our staff via video calls. In 2015 Megan and Gwethalyn traveled to Oslo to do training with the NExT staff and to help start their first workshop off by working directly with their participants. In 2016 they traveled back to Oslo for the end of the process helping the NExT team in the final steps of the workshop and preparing for performance. The first NExT performance: svart hav/hvitt skum (black sea/white foam) was based on the Little Mermaid and used the techniques of The Futurists, Samuel Beckett’s minimalist works, Antonin Artaud, and Kim Alte Hansen’s play Buy Nothing Day. NExT and MXTW completed a cultural exchange over the summers of 2017 and 2018 with groups from both workshops visiting and performing in each other’s countries. NExT is continuing in Oslo and produced its third full workshop in the summer of 2019.
