kolliderende enklaver

In the summer 2018, Manhattan Arts Center sent a group of MXTW participants to Oslo, Norway to collaborate with students in Scenlusa Produksjoner’s NExT Workshop.

Students from Kansas got to experience Norwegian culture first hand by staying with the families of NExT students and visiting many cultural sites in and around Oslo when they weren’t in rehearsals. The two groups used their shared creation methods to collaborate on a new piece of theatre in which performers from both countries performed in both English and Norwegian.

Their performance of Kolliderende Enklaver included this piece in addition to pieces performed by MXTW in English and pieces performed by NExT in Norwegian. The 2018 MXTW/NexT collaboration received funding and support from the U.S. Embassy to Norway. U.S. diplomatic staff who visited rehearsals and performances were impressed both by the value of the intercultural connections made and by the high quality of the art that was created.

We will not back down.
When the sun meets the earth
We shall make our work and make it well.
We must live and breathe and see.
We must look behind and look ahead.
We must carry each other on our backs.
We won’t travel blindly in darkness
Energien fra scenen skal flytte alt som en gang var.
We will shake the world and the people in it
with dignity, with our lives, with the fire in our hearts
When the sun meets the earth
We shall make our work and make it well.
Vi skal endre jordens form til et dunkene hjerte.
