What makes Hamilton Method workshops different from other youth theatre programs?

Diverse and Challenging

  • We study plays and promote techniques often thought of as challenging for any reader or performer, but we do it in a way that is accessible to the participants (and their audiences).
  • We trust students to engage with and discuss the complex ideas in these plays.
  • Your audience will see an incredibly unique show with presentations of several different types of theatre within one performance.

I can’t think of a better introduction to avant-garde theater or to the other kids I met in the program…We formed a community I will always treasure. As an individual, I grew in my writing, in my acting, in my critical thinking skills, in my creativity, in my body, and in my heart.

Collaborative Process

  • Students are considered collaborating artists whose ideas and opinions always deserve equal attention and consideration to the ideas and opinions of their fellow students and directors/teachers.
  • Students have a say in every major decision that shapes their work. While they might not always agree with every decision made, they always know why it was made. This creates a deep sense of ownership and understanding of the work that drives them to perform with incredible passion and confidence.
  • The collaborative nature of the creation process requires all participants to operate with a high level of artistic respect and professionalism

Respect and Inclusivity

  • While it is certainly not unique to our workshops, the Hamilton Method was developed specifically to create a program where participants would always be treated with respect and as a safe space for all people.
  • This creation of the safe space necessary for exploration and creation means we always extend the right of non-participation during our exercises and rehearsals.

No previous theatre experience required

  • No prior experience or training in theatre is required, the process contains all the training necessary. We ask only that participants be up for trying it and able to commit the necessary time.
  • Auditions and acceptance policies are not required, anyone with any level of ability and talent can do this work, so long as they are willing to work together.
